Our Palo Santo is offered with the same intention we bring to all of the plant medicines in our Botanica: to know where they come from, how they were gathered, and the relationships that allow them to reach our hands.
Sourced through Whispering Winds Shop, our Palo Santo comes directly from Peruvian forest and is fair trade sourced. The trees are not cut down for harvest. The wood to make this incense is gathered only after the tree has died naturally and fallen to the forest floor, where it is left to age for a minimum of 5 to 10 years before being harvested.
This period of rest and aging is an important part of Palo Santo's journey. As the fallen wood matures, its naturally occurring aromatic resins develop, creating the warm, woody, citrus-like fragrance for which Palo Santo is known.
Palo Santo, meaning “holy wood” in Spanish, has longstanding relationships with Indigenous and local communities of South America, particularly in Peru and Ecuador, where the aromatic wood has been worked with in spiritual, medicinal, and everyday practices. We honor that Palo Santo is more than an aromatic product. It is very much a tree with a homeland, history, and living cultural relationships~ like many medicines from around the world.
At Seeds of Being, we offer Palo Santo as an ally for prayer, cleansing, grounding, and intentional tending of self and space. We encourage working with the wood slowly and respectfully rather than feeling that large amounts of smoke are needed!
